How to read the global trading day
Asia starts the cycle
Tokyo and Hong Kong are among the first major equity markets to react to overnight news and economic data from the region.
Europe adds liquidity
London and Frankfurt take over as Asia approaches its close. European data and central-bank signals often set the tone for the next part of the day.
New York drives the finish
The US session overlaps with Europe and concentrates major company reports, US macro releases and some of the day’s highest trading volumes.
Regular, pre-market and after-hours trading
The status cards show the regular session, when liquidity is normally highest and the official opening and closing auctions take place. Some venues and brokers provide early or late trading, but spreads can be wider and available order types may differ.
Daylight saving time and holidays
The US, Europe and Australia change clocks on different dates, while Japan and Hong Kong do not. Local conversion on this page accounts for those time-zone rules. Always check the exchange calendar before a holiday because sessions can be closed or shortened.

The regular trading session on the NYSE and Nasdaq runs from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. New York time, Monday through Friday, except exchange holidays and shortened sessions.
Is Forex open around the clock?
The foreign-exchange market normally operates 24 hours a day from Sunday evening to Friday evening as activity moves between Sydney, Tokyo, London and New York. Liquidity varies throughout the day.
Why do exchange hours shift in my time zone?
Countries change to and from daylight saving time on different dates. This page uses each market’s IANA time zone and converts the schedule in the browser, so the local display adjusts automatically.
Are cryptocurrencies traded on weekends?
